The City of Penticton's Public Works Department is in search of a highly skilled and energetic individual for the position of Pipelayer. The Public Works department keeps our community safe by providing clean, safe drinking water, a reliable sanitary sewer system, and storm-water drainage to help prevent flooding. This department manages the roads in our community, as well as the parks and cemetery, and collects your garbage and recycling. To help support these services, as well as those delivered by other departments, the Public Works department also manages the City's fleet of vehicles.

Reporting to the Public Works Utilities Supervisor, the Pipelayer will perform tasks such as installation and maintenance on the domestic and effluent water systems, sanitary sewer system and storm collection system.  The Pipelayer is an integral member of the Utilities team working on all facets of the City of Penticton's underground infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Installation, repair, and maintenance of water mains (domestic and irrigation), service lines, valves, fire hydrants and PRV stations
  • Installation, repair and maintenance of storm and sanitary sewer lines
  • Maintenance of dams and related Public Works Infrastructure

Key Qualifications:

  • Completion of Senior Secondary School
  • Level I EOCP Water Distribution
  • Level 1 EOCP Waster Water Collection certification preferred
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in municipal utility and road construction
  • Experience and knowledge in sanitary sewer, domestic water, irrigation, effluent irrigation and storm drainage systems
  • Knowledge of municipal safety procedures and practices
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labour in various weather conditions
  • Operational/job planning and problem solving
  • Interpersonal/communication skills
  • Valid Class 3 Drivers' Licence with Air Endorsement
  • Ability to be on standby after hours
