The City of Penticton's Wastewater Treatment Plant is in search of a highly motivated and progressive individual for the position of Systems Integrator. The Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant is an industry leading facility that protects public health and the environment by treating wastewater from residences, schools, hospitals, businesses, and industries. The Plant also accepts wastewater from both private septic systems and the OK Falls treatment plants within the neighboring Regional District area.

The Systems Integrator reports to the Wastewater Treatment Plant Supervisor. The determination and scheduling of work tasks will be coordinated by the Wastewater Treatment Plant Supervisor in consultation with the Water Quality Supervisor.

This position provides process control integration and programming for the infrastructure within the Wastewater and Water Treatment Plants. Specifically, the Systems Integrator participates in installation, repair and maintenance of sensory, control and communication equipment and associated software related to wastewater treatment, wastewater collection, water treatment and water distribution infrastructure. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Integrates sensory and control equipment into the wastewater and water treatment plant control systems and software with a focus on whole system function both within each plant system individually and collectively where one system impacts the other.
  • Performs the installation, calibration, preventative maintenance and repairs on a wide variety of electrical equipment, instrumentation, control systems, and software pertaining to the City's wastewater treatment plant, wastewater collection, and water treatment plant and water distribution systems.   
  • Participates in budget process by researching details for capital and operating projects and participating in design reviews for engineering projects.          Investigates system alarms on callouts as required and makes repairs or adjustments.
  • Compiles data, prepares and reviews electronic reports, and completes logs detailing work completed.
  • Assists Operations and Maintenance staff when required, performs routine maintenance and preventative maintenance as assigned, and contributes to plant cleanliness.
  • Assists in lockout procedure development and follows lockout procedures.
  • Works with the Wastewater and Water Treatment Plant Foremen, as well as contractors, to arrange and coordinate work.
  • Makes recommendations on technical matters to supervisors and Foreman to optimize treatment efficiency and meet regulatory requirements.
  • The incumbent will be required to research and initiate ordering of equipment, supplies and services.
  • The incumbent is responsible for the organization, cleaning and maintenance of a designated and dedicated workshop area at the AWWTP and/or WTP.
  • Works safely at all times and has a detailed knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulations, Electrical code, and CSA standards.
  • Troubleshoot plant processes using PLCs, data and traditional methods.

Key Requirements:

  • Completion of Senior Secondary School or its equivalent
  • C. or Interprovincial Journeyman Certificate in the trade of Electrician
  • 2 year integration diploma OR 5+ years of instrumentation experience
  • A combination of education OR experience may be considered as recognized by the City of Penticton
  • Detailed knowledge of electrical codes and the methods and safety requirements applicable to the work
  • Experience in an industrial environment, preference given to water or wastewater facility experience
  • Experience in programming PLCs, SCADA software, telemetry and related control systems. Preference given to experience with Wonderware and Schneider PLCs
  • Valid BC Driver's License, Minimum Class 5
  • Preferred knowledge of the general operation of wastewater and water treatment systems
  • Necessary knowledge of the occupational hazards, safety and health precautions, and first aid techniques
  • Preferred experience with Wonderware and Schneider PLCs
  • Ability to express ideas clearly and effectively both orally and in writing and execute both oral and written instructions
  • Ability to use a variety of computer software applications, including process control, data acquisition, report and record keeping
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
