The City of Penticton's Wastewater Treatment Plant is in search of a highly motivated and progressive individual for the position of Millwright Apprentice. The Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant is an industry leading facility that protects public health and the environment by treating wastewater from residences, schools, hospitals, businesses, and industries. The Plant also accepts wastewater from both private septic systems and the OK Falls treatment plants within the neighboring Regional District area.

Reporting to the Wastewater Treatment Plant Supervisor, the Millwright Apprentice will have the opportunity to perform repairs and preventative maintenance on a variety of machines and equipment at the water and waste water plants, along with numerous lift stations throughout the City of Penticton. The City of Penticton will be the individual's sponsor and will ensure they obtain the appropriate hours and training as per the requirements of the apprenticeship program. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Service of pumps, gearboxes and motors.
  • Fabrication of brackets etc.
  • Maintenance of large, complex machines.

Key Requirements:

  • Completion of Senior Secondary School.  
  • Anyone with a commendable mechanical background, including 1st or 2nd year apprentices are welcome to apply, although preference will be given to those in their 3rd year.
  • Valid BC Driver's License, Minimum Class 5.
  • Safety conscious, team player with strong problem solving skills.
  • Ability to take direction and work in extreme conditions if required.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to express ideas clearly and effectively both orally and in writing and execute both oral and written instructions.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills.

Position type: Full-time Permanent (40 hours per week)
Wage: The wage for this position will begin at 75% of the Millwright rate of $32.62 - $36.17 per hour. This rate will increase in increments of 5% every 6 months up to a maximum of 85% of the Millwright rate, as specific apprenticeship requirements are met.
Premiums: $0.55 per hour (WWTP Operator Premium)
