The City of Penticton's Water Treatment Plant is in search of a highly motivated and energetic individual for the temporary (6 months) position of Water Quality & Conservation Ambassador. The City of Penticton's Water Treatment Division is a subsidiary of the Engineering Department and is responsible for the operation of the water treatment plant, water booster stations and water reservoirs.

Under the general direction of the Water Quality Supervisor, the Water Quality & Conservation Ambassador assists the Water Treatment Plant operation's teams in the education and promotion of the City's Water Treatment Plant. This involves promoting and educating the importance of water quality and conservation to the larger customers and to the general customers of the City of Penticton Water system.  

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the production and distribution of all media type advertising and communication through the City Communications Department.
  • Coordinate with the major water users of the community to educate and share information on water quality and water conservation.
  • Coordinate and implement social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, e-newsletter, etc.) through the City Communications Department.
  • Prepare content and update water quality and water conservation information on the City website.
  • Create and review promotional information for water plant tours using various mediums.
  • Collaborate with other departments and external suppliers on promotional and awareness materials.

Required Qualifications:

  • Completion of post-secondary degree or diploma ideally in marketing, business administration, communications or a related discipline at a recognized institution.
  • Has a passion for water conservation.
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License.
  • Skills in digital and social media marketing, including basic design and layout programs are an asset (Publisher, Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Ability to exercise creativity, inventiveness and originality in all scopes of work.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills - reading, writing, listening and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to work independently, and be a motivated self-starter.
  • Capacity to prioritize assignments and projects.
  • Positive attitude with the ability to adapt quickly in a lively working environment.
