The City of Penticton's Human Resources Department is in search of a highly energetic and dynamic individual for the contract position (14 hours per week) of Payroll Coordinator. The Human Resources Department strives to balance the needs of all City staff by developing and managing corporate programs. These include recruitment, labour relations, collective bargaining, training, staff development, payroll and benefits, and health and safety.

Reporting to the Human Resources Manager and taking direction from the primary Payroll Coordinator, the contract Payroll Coordinator is an experience payroll professional who understands the complexities arising out of processing payroll for a municipality. Our successful candidate is an individual who has extensive experience working with payroll in the Agresso system, is either looking to get back into the workforce, only desires to work two days per week, or is looking to expand their experience as part of the team of exceptional employees at the City of Penticton!

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ability to complete full cycle payroll for 350+ Union and Exempt employees with skill and accuracy working in the Agresso payroll system.
  • Administering all employee payroll records, including benefits for all employee groups.
  • Adhering to deadlines for payment of CRA source deductions, Pension, WCB, and benefits.
  • Daily, monthly and yearly processes including Set-up of new employees, ROE's, Pension terms, T4's, reports and reconciliations.
  • Keeping current with all 4 employee union contracts.
  • Consult with managers regarding payroll concerns, research and process adjustments as required.
  • Be readily available to Managers by phone or email, as a source of information regarding payroll and employee issues.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must have experience in processing payroll in the Agresso system.
  • Payroll Certificate Program; prefer CPA - PCP designation; with a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a unionized environment.
  • Current knowledge of British Columbia Employment Standards preferred.
  • Excellent computer skills and prior experience with Microsoft Office Programs (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Experience with Unit 4 Business World On Payroll system preferred.
  • Excellent accuracy, high level of detail, time management, problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and to work effectively as a member of the team.

This contract (14 hours per week) exempt position offers an attractive benefits, vacation and pension package. Salary will be determined based on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience.
